Monday marks one year since the attack at the Pulse nightclub, when a gunman took the lives of 49 people and wounded another 53. 

Communities and groups around the Orlando area are hosting special events, remembrances and ceremonies leading up to Orlando United Day on Monday, when the city of Orlando will honor victims and survivors of the attack at special events at the Pulse nightclub site and at Lake Eola.

  • OneBlood is hosting a commemorative blood drive at locations throughout Central Florida. Donors can get a T-shirt and free wellness checkup. DETAILS

  • 9 a.m.
    The Center, 946 N. Mills Avenue, Orlando, FL 32803
    Orlando Police Chief John Mina and staff will be at The Center to serve breakfast to the community and light a special memorial display inside of the new Center building at 946 N. Mills Ave. The Center will open at 8 a.m. June 12 for people to arrive.
    After that, the new LGBT Community Center under renovation for the past two years will be open to the public, which will be filled with art, banners, and special displays that have been arriving at The Center over the past year. There will also be counselors on site all day and food supplied throughout the day by Mediterranean Blue, Jimmy John's, First Watch, Spoletos and Tijuana Flats.

    "Throughout the day, members of the community are welcome to visit Pulse Nightclub to honor the legacies of the 49 victims, their families and the survivors. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., there will be a ceremony including various community speakers, reflective prayers, a reading of the 49 names, a display of 49 wreaths and music by Violectric. The Inspiration Orlando mural, our Angel Force, Hang-a-Heart, Stars of Hope and comfort dogs will be present."

    Orlando Love: Remembering Our Angels

    "One-year remembrance ceremony at Lake Eola Park. The ceremony, Orlando Love: Remembering Our Angels, will include remarks by community leaders, musical performances by Olga Tañón and Sisaundra Lewis along with a memorial reading of the 49 names of those who were taken during the June 12 tragedy."
  • 10 p.m. to midnight
    Public Community Gathering -- Moments of Hope and Healing

    "At 10 p.m., the community is invited to conclude the evening with a series of prayer, live music, inspirational dance and reflection."

At Rollins College

  • 49 Bells: Noon Monday, June 12: The One Orlando Alliance has asked churches around the world to toll their bells 49 times at noon June 12 to commemorate the 49 victims who were killed in the Pulse shooting. Rollins has joined this effort and will toll the bell in the chapel tower during the reflection event. For more information, visit oneorlandoalliance.org.​
  • Reflection in Knowles Memorial Chapel: 11:45 a.m.–12:30 p.m. Monday, June 12: Members of the Rollins and surrounding community are invited to join together in the Knowles Memorial Chapel for words and reflection from 11:45 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. and participants should be seated no later than 11:45 a.m.
