A bomb squad responded to Orlando International Airport to investigate a suspicious vehicle Wednesday morning, but nothing hazardous was found.

  • Police, bomb squad respond to 'security incident' at airport
  • Orlando International Airport said 'suspicious vehicle' reported
  • Incident comes a week after gunman shut down Terminal A

The incident comes a week after a man armed with what appeared to be a gun walked up to a rental car counter in Terminal A, prompting a massive law enforcement response and shutting down that side of the airport.

At about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Orlando Police said the scene was clear.

According to an airport spokesperson, two security canines alerted on an unattended vehicle in a parking area not accessible to the public on Level 1, A side of the main terminal.

Orlando Police and the fire department responded to assist airport emergency personnel in assessing the situation.

The airport remained open during the investigation.

By Wednesday afternoon, the airport's tram that takes passengers from the terminal to gates 30-59 went down for about 2 1/2 hours because of a power outage. United, Spirit and American Airlines were among the carriers affected. The airport encouraged fliers to allow extra time to get around the airport.

The rainy weather also delayed some flights, the airport said.

Last week, a man armed with what appeared to be a gun shut down operations in Terminal A of the airport. The terminal was cleared and the incident snarled traffic for hours. Michael Wayne Pettigrew was taken into custody under the Baker Act and faces several charges. His weapon turned out to be a simulated gun.
