An alligator was struck and killed by a small plane landing at Orlando Executive Airport last week.

The Piper PA 31 aircraft was landing on runway 7 at the airport at 2:15 a.m. Thursday when the 11-foot gator was hit.

The gator reportedly jumped up and struck the plane's wing during landing. The gator was killed instantly, and the aircraft sustained damage to the wing, witnesses said.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
