The flashing lights, damaged cars, and FHP troopers from Tuesday’s fatal crash are now gone. A day later, the friends of Joe Masseria, Gary Maharaj and Claudette Rambissoon came back to a spot that will haunt them forever.

“Just to be where he was last, you know, like to see if I feel,” said Anthony Chavis, a friend. “And I don’t, I am just trying to get an answer of why?”

Tuesday, FHP said Maharaj, Masseria and Rambissoon were pulling across Semoran into Walmart when they pulled into the direct path of another car going northbound.

The power of the crash split their car in two. Maharaj and Masseria were pronounced dead at an area hospital, while Rambissoon remains in critical condition at ORMC.

“I get a phone call from his mom telling me bad news, that he passed away and I still couldn’t believe it,” said Chavis.

Chavis has known Maharaj for almost 20 years. The pair met in high school and formed the band Holliwoodz in 2009.

“Gary was like my brother, band member and family friend. We did everything together,” said Chavis.

Melody Casanova, a friend of both men, said Masseria was always thinking of others.

“Loyal, I would say, he makes sure everybody is taken care of,” said Casanova.

Both men were very involved with Orlando’s underground music community. During a candle light vigil Wednesday, their friends made promises to carry on their legacies.

“He believed in everyone when no one else believed in them,” said Casanova.

Sunday, Casanova is hosting another memorial for both men. The event will be at Flash Dancers Orlando from 10 p.m. until 2 a.m. People are asked to bring donations for the men’s family.

FHP continues to investigate the crash.
