Daytona Beach Police said Jonathan Race, 20, broke into several boats Saturday at Daytona Marina and Boat Works, taking off with the 36-foot vessel and beaching it.

Inside the boat, investigators said they found tan shorts that contained a cell phone and wallet that included Race's driver's license. They found him at his home on Ridgewood Avenue in Port Orange, according to the arrest affidavit.

He told them he was at the 7-Eleven across the street from the marina and drank the Four Lokos but also admitted to being "rather drunk and just making stupid decisions," the affidavit said.

He said he woke up on the beach and walked home. When investigators asked him whether he noticed if he was wearing shorts when he woke up, Race told investigators that he was wearing a pair of blue shorts that didn't belong to him.

Officers from the U.S. Coast Guard, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and Volusia County Beach Safety all were involved in the search for Race after the boat was found empty, as it was thought that he may have gone overboard.
