The hole, just west of Industry Road near Cocoa, opened up Monday morning and was initially thought to be a sinkhole. A Florida Department of Transportation contractor determined that the hole was caused by a leaking pipe underneath the roadway.

Engineers had to close part of the northbound lanes to make repairs.

Officials are asking motorists to slow down in the area of northbound State Road 528 near Exit 45 as crews will be out working on the hole.
