A Deltona woman and an Ahopha Wildlife Rescue worker came to the aid of a sandhill crane that had a broken leg on Saturday.

  • Sandhill crane was given splint on broken leg
  • Bird was taken to Ahopha Wildlife for further care

The bird was discovered on South Dorchester Drive standing in the same spot for four hours without moving, a resident told News 13 about her find.

She called several places for help, but some did not return her phone call or others were not licensed to handle that type of bird, she explained.

However, a man from Ahopha Wildlife Rescue was able to come out and put a splint on the bird's leg, the resident said. The worker took the sandhill crane back to the rescue for further care.
