Joel Baker was killed, along with his young passenger, a boy, when a Camaro struck his pickup truck, stated the FHP.

At around 9:48 p.m., a driver of a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro — his age, name and place of residence has not been released — was speeding along northbound on State Road 15A/North Spring Garden Avenue, stated the FHP.

As the Camaro's driver was approaching Cascades Park Boulevard, he struck a 2009 Chevy pickup truck driven by Baker at the intersection of Cascades ParkBoulevard, stated the FHP.

The pickup truck had entered the intersection when the Camaro struck the left side of the truck, which caught fire as it overturned and came to a rest on the southbound lane of State Road 15A, described FHP

The Camaro continued northbound and eventually stopped in the inside lane when it too caught on fire, stated FHP.

Baker and the 11-year-old boy, who were both from DeLand, died at the scene and the boy's name has not been released by the FHP.

Baker was not wearing a seatbelt, but his young passenger did. FHP stated Baker was not under the influence, but it is still trying to determine if that is the case for the Camaro's driver.

The Camaro's driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, is listed in critical condition and was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center.

Charges are pending.
