A rabbi who is accused of impregnating a 15-year-old girl is expected to face a judge on Thursday.

The Sanford Police Department arrested Lloyd Haughton, 41, on Wednesday. Haughton was scheduled to face a judge at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. He is being held on a $35,000 bond.

In March, a 15-year-old girl went to police, saying Haughton had been molesting her for the past two years.

Haughton denied the allegations. But a month later, the girl’s mother contacted police to say her daughter was pregnant and that Haughton was the father.

On Wednesday, test results from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement concluded Haughton was the biological father of the fetus.

Police said Haughton is a rabbi at Synagogue Beth Israel in Sanford.

According to the synagogue’s website, Haughton is a native of Manchester, Jamaica, and became the first rabbi to be ordained through Beth Israel Torah Academy. The synagogue's website has since removed Haughton from its site.

In addition, the website stated that he is the synagogue’s official cantor and teacher of biblical Hebrew.

Gary Fernandez, the head rabbi of Synagogue Beth Israel, told News 13 that Haughton is no longer with the synagogue.

"Immediately upon hearing the news, Lloyd Haughton was released of his duties and is no longer affiliated with Synagogue Beth Israel. This is very sad, and time is needed for us to heal from the entire matter," Fernandez said.

Sanford Police Chief Cecil Smith was sympathetic toward the synagogue.

“It is always disheartening when people in positions of authority violate and abuse the trust that is bestowed upon them,” he said in a statement. “I hope the congregation and community can come together to heal and repair the trust that has been shattered.”

Investigators said there is nothing right now to indicate there are more victims, but anyone who wants to report an incident can call the Sanford Police Department at 1-407-688-5070.
