The man accused of shooting a nurse at a Marion County hospital on Saturday has been identified.

Jason Ronald Gignac, 38, of Summerfield, appeared before a judge Sunday morning. He faces multiple charges, including resisting arrest with violence and battery on an officer.

Gignac was taken to West Marion Community Hospital Saturday after telling troopers he was ill.

According to troopers, Gignac became violent after receiving treatment. A struggle ensued when troopers tried to take him into custody.

During the struggle, Gignac discharged a trooper’s gun, hitting a nurse in the leg.

She is in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery.

Three troopers were also injured in the struggle, FHP said.

Gignac was arrested and taken to the Marion County jail. He’s being held without bond.
