A 9-year-old girl drowned in Kissimmee, authorities said Sunday morning.

The incident happened on Avon Boulevard.

A spokeswoman for the Kissimmee Police Department said officers responded at about midnight to a home receiving a call from the girl's parents.

Police said the girl, who was autistic and nonverbal, got out of the house and into a retention pond where she was found.

Police said the incident doesn't appear to be suspicious.

The girl's name wasn't released.
