  • Pulse first responders were honored at special ceremony
  • About 300 people from local, state and federal agencies were recognized
  • 49 people were killed in the Pulse nightclub shooting

About 300 people were honored at the Orlando Police Department's headquarters.

The ceremony started Thursday morning with a moment of silence for the 49 people who were killed.

The gunman, Omar Mateen, opened fire inside the Pulse nightclub on June 12.

First responders from local, state and federal agencies were recognized at the ceremony.

Police Chief Mina talked about how the first responders worked tirelessly taking care of the victims during the shooting.

He also discussed the SWAT team's work during the early morning hours of the shooting.

“They were feet from the killer knowing that he possibly had explosives and didn’t retreat from safety, so they put their lives in danger,” said Orlando Police Chief John Mina.

Weeks after the shooting, law enforcement personnel continued to help the victims who were impacted.
