  • The Florida Highway Patrol stated this is an ongoing investigation

At around 10:35 p.m., 37-year-old Jamel Brown was walking north to south across U.S. 192, about 1,000 feet east from Magical Landings Boulevard, when he was struck by Yashira Gonzalez Diaz as she was heading east on U.S. 192 in her 2002 Ford Focus, the FHP stated.

The Naples resident was dragged underneath Diaz's car and he came to a rest at the right shoulder. However, Diaz went off road, through a grassy shoulder and struck a traffic sign support, according to FHP.

Brown was taken to Osceola Regional Medical Center where he died. FHP is trying to determine if Brown had been impaired or not with alcohol.

The 25-year-old Kissimmee driver only suffered minor injuries and was wearing her seat belt, stated the FHP, which added that Diaz had not been impaired with alcohol.

This is an ongoing investigation.
