After a 19-hour standoff in Volusia County, police say they will file charges against a man if they find out he altered his AR-15 rifle.

For almost a day, a 36-year-old man, who the Daytona Beach Shores Police Department is not naming, barricaded himself inside his 2934 Sea Oats Circle townhouse in Daytona Beach Shores.

Police believed he had 10 guns and they say he threw two of them out the window, which were a handgun and an AR-15 rifle. Police also found a BB gun.

Officials say if they find out he altered the rifle, they will file charges.

Police used tear gas to get the man out and they transported him to a hospital. He will be involuntarily institutionalized, officials stated.

Mike Jones was visiting his mother nearby and says he heard the trained negotiators speaking to the man over a loud speaker.

"I was a little bit concerned he may have had explosives because we live right here. That part concerned me a little bit as it went on and on and on," Jones said.

Some residents were evacuated, others were asked to stay inside.

"The one neighbor we talked to, he missed two doctor appointments because he couldn’t leave," Jones claimed.

Police say while the man made threats to law enforcement and resisted officers without violence, their main concern was to get him help.
