A donation site has been set up for a Volusia County Sheriff's Office deputy's daughter who died in a crash Wednesday.

  • Darian Dearborn, 17, died in crash on Wednesday
  • She is daughter of Volusia Deputy Dennis Dearborn
  • 14-year-old passenger hospitalized in serious condition

Darian Dearborn, 17, was driving a 2002 GMC SUV northbound on Raulerson Road at about 2:05 p.m. when she left the roadway, overcorrected and went off the shoulder, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The SUV overturned and struck a tree. Dearborn, of Pierson, died at the scene. She was not wearing a seat belt, according to an FHP report.

Her 14-year-old passenger, Karley LaBaw, was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando for serious injuries. LaBaw, also of Pierson, was wearing a seat belt, troopers say.

Dearborn is the daughter of Volusia County Deputy Dennis Dearborn.

“The Dearborn family is our family, and when a tragedy like this affects one of our own, we have to pull together and show them we’re here to carry them through,” Sheriff Mike Chitwood said. “We will be here for whatever Dennis and his family need, whenever they need it.”

A GoFundMe site has been set up to help her family, the Sheriff's Office said.

The goal is to reach $20,000. As of Friday morning, $17,280 has been donated.
