One of the drivers who died in the Interstate 4 crash near the Beachline Expressway early Thursday morning has been identified, the Florida Highway Patrol stated.

At about 12:35 a.m., Matthew Adams, 25, was driving a four-door 2016 Volkswagen in the westbound left lane of I-4 as Benjamin MacKay, 28, was in the center lane going the same direction in his 2001 Ford SUV, according to troopers investigating the crash.

Adams, for an unknown reason, moved to the center lane, then the left lane, and the front right of his car struck the left side of MacKay's left side, the FHP stated.

FHP Sgt. Kim Montes said the two vehicles collided, which both overturned. Adams was ejected.

A third vehicle, a 2012 Dodge Charger, ran over the ejected driver, Montes said. The FHP stated that the driver of the charger, 26-year-old Mohammed Makki, stayed at the scene and won't be charged.

Adams was not wearing a seat belt, but MacKay and Makki were, the FHP stated.

The crash closed the I-4 westbound lanes between the Beachline Expressway (State Road 528) and the Central Florida Parkway for several hours.
