A House oversight committee will hold a hearing for next week to investigate whether President Donald Trump interfered in an FBI probe, and former FBI director James Comey will be asked to testify.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz, the GOP chairman of the committee, said Wednesday he'll ask Comey to testify at the May 24 hearing.
The Senate intelligence committee also wants Comey to appear before the panel in both open and closed sessions.

Early Wednesday evening, the Justice Department appointed former FBI chief Robert Mueller to oversee the investigation into the Trump administration's possible Russian connections in the 2016 election.
News outlets reported Tuesday that Comey had written a memo about a February meeting with Trump during which the president asked him to shut down an investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn. Flynn, a close aide to Trump, was fired after it was determined he'd been misleading about his contacts with Russian officials.
