The state has dropped one of its charges against Markeith Loyd, the man accused in the killing of a pregnant woman and an Orlando Police lieutenant.

According to a Friday filing by State Attorney Brad King in the Ninth Judicial Circuit, a charge of resisting a law enforcement officer without violence is being dropped because Loyd is already facing multiple homicide and felony charges.

The state is seeking the death penalty against Loyd, so "further prosecution of this misdemeanor offense is not warranted," the report stated.

"The resisting charges are the least serious charges in a slew of violent capital and life felony charges he faces," Orlando Police spokeswoman Michelle Guido said Monday.

Loyd was charged with the offense on Jan. 17, in connection with an Orlando Police Department arrest.

Loyd is accused in the slayings of his pregnant ex-girlfriend, Sade Dixon, in December and Lt. Debra Clayton in January. His left eye was injured while he was being taken into custody on the evening of Jan. 17 after a nine-day manhunt.
