A brush fire is still smoldering in Seminole County.

The fire started near Live Oak Reserve Boulevard on the south side of Oviedo Saturday around 3:30 p.m.

The fire is 90-percent contained and most of the evacuation orders have been lifted.

On Sunday, hot spots were still burning in the Live Oak Reserve subdivision.

John Brock, his wife, and three sons had to leave their house in the subdivision.

“First responders came around and said we got a voluntary evacuation going on and we recommend that you get out,” said evacuee John Brock.

The voluntary evacuation soon became mandatory as the Sterling Fire quickly grew to 165 acres.

“10 minutes later they came back and said this is a mandatory evacuation and we thought hang on, this could be a bit more serious, so we just got out,” said Brock.

Brock said about three hours after the evacuation, he received a picture of his home with flames 15 feet from it.

“When I saw that, I thought yeah, it’s gone, it’s going to go down, but luckily it didn’t. I just want to say a huge thanks to the first responders because without them are house wouldn’t be here,” said Brock.

However, firefighters couldn’t do anything to save structures burning at a Girl Scout camp in Chuluota.

Eleven structures and three campsites were destroyed.
