Volusia County Beach Safety and Ocean Rescue officials said the woman, who was visiting the area from Georgia, was standing in about 4 feet of water when she felt something hit her.

Lifeguards went to help and discovered she was bitten by a shark on her thigh. The bite was minor and barely broke the skin, officials said.

The woman was treated at the beach, but because she began to panic, she was taken to Bert Fish Medical Center in New Smyrna Beach.

She was treated and released.

Volusia County is considered the shark bite capital of the world.
