A Flagler County homeowner is now getting answers about repairs for her home after it was damaged by hurricane Matthew. The homeowner said they've been out their home for months because the insurance wasn't holding up its end of the bargain.

Hurricane Matthew has made it tough for Linda and Mavis Lewis to call anywhere home.

"Five and a half months we were out of the house, went to three different places," said Linda Lewis, the homeowner's daughter.

Lewis said the Heritage Insurance Company had been working on repairing their home since the storm and they have been moving from neighbors' homes to hotels.

"I'm tired of moving back and forth," said homeowner Mavis Lewis.

Lewis said she and her elderly mother are currently staying at the Red Roof Inn in Palm Coast as crews work on her home.

"It's not comfortable. I'm used to a comfortable place to stay, I want my home," said Mavis Lewis.

At 87 years old, Mavis said her health is declining and the issues at the home made it worse. Documents from March 2017, obtained from Heritage, show moisture levels are higher than normal in the home and the air quality is close to normal with possible microgrowths.

She said she wasn't getting anywhere, so her church member helped connect her with News 13. After calls were made to the insurance company, a senior adjuster was sent to the Lewis' home.

"He said he will fix it. He said it was not acceptable. He looked around the house, said he was disappointed," Lewis said.

Lewis said the adjuster told her they will receive new appliances and fix issues that are still at the home.

The insurance company said they're coming back to do more testing on air quality and ducts by Friday. The president said this will be fixed within days.
