Osceola County showed off its ranching history Monday afternoon with its annual cattle drive.

  • Tradition going back to 19th century
  • RAM National Circuit Finals Rodeo this weekend

The streets of downtown Kissimmee were literally filled with cattle. The drive is a tradition in Osceola County going back to the 19th century.

Stray cattle were left penned by the Courthouse Square until their rightful owners came to claim them. That's where the drive started Monday.

Although that's no longer the process, Osceola County continues to be a leader in agriculture by having two of the largest cattle operations in the United States.

"Of course we have strong deep agricultural roots,” Osceola County Commissioner Cheryl Grieb said. “This is a pretty cool event to have in Osceola County and it reaches back to the beginning of our heritage."

The event takes place ahead of the RAM National Circuit Finals rodeo. It takes place Thursday through Sunday at Osceola Heritage Park.
