An investigation is underway after a man reportedly attempted to kidnap at 16-year-old girl Tuesday morning as she walked to her bus stop in southern Orange County, deputies said.

  • Girl, 16, was walking to bus stop at about 6:15 a.m.
  • Orange County deputies are searching for suspect in case

The incident happened at about 6:15 a.m. along Bastille Lane, which is in front of the Alexandria Parc Vue apartment complex.

The teenager told deputies she noticed a tan- or white-colored older-model sedan pass by.

The victim then said the vehicle drove by a second time and parked. The teenager told investigators the suspect, a white male in his 20s, exited the car and struck her, causing her to fall to the ground.

Deputies said the girl "loudly resisted" the suspect as he tried to pull her toward the car. Someone who lives in the apartment complex noticed the victim kicking and screaming and pulled up to ask what was happening.

Javier Rivas lives in the apartment complex and noticed the victim kicking, screaming and pulled up to ask what was happening.

"He ran away, I ask her what happened, and she told me, ‘He tried to get me.’ I tried to catch him, but I couldn’t," said Rivas.

The suspect got back into the vehicle and left the complex in an unknown direction, deputies said. The victim was shaken and bruised during the attack, a release states.

Rivas says he feels lucky to be in the right place at the right time to try and help the girl.

“I feel impotent, because I couldn’t do anymore else, but at least he couldn’t get her," said Rivas. "She didn’t let him take her. I guess she is strong."

The suspect is described to have a thin build with brown hair and facial hair.
