A strong 7.1 earthquake hit off the coast of Chile overnight. There are no immediate reports of injuries or damage, but people who felt the quake have been lighting up social media with video and images.

  • 7.1 earthquake struck in Pacific Ocean, but felt miles away
  • Pool water was seen sloshing around
  • Santiago Airport's floor tiles broken, but is still in operation

The center of the quake was in the Pacific about 22 miles west of the port city Valparaiso, hitting at around 5:40 p.m. (EST) Monday. The tremors were strong in the country's capital Santiago as well.

One video posted online shows a pool sloshing water around from the heavy ground movement.

Another video from an apartment shows everything shaking and objects falling.

The Santiago Airport posted a picture of some tiles that opened up by the movement, but stated it is operating normally.

There has not been any major damage reported or injuries and authorities are discounting the possibility of a tsunami.
