No charges will be filed in the case of the "blue road" incident Monday in Melbourne.

  • Blue dye used in golf course fertilizer applications spilled
  • Eau Gallie Boulevard was shut down for hours Monday
  • Officials say the dye, which turned road blue, is nontoxic

A gallon of dye used to mark off places to fertilize areas of golf courses accidentally spilled onto Eau Gallie Boulevard just east of Wickham Road.

The treatment is capable of covering some 50,000 square feet.

All day, traffic through the corridor spread the dye over several hundred yards.

Investigators determined it was nontoxic and no threat to people or the environment.

The road was closed for a couple of hours Monday afternoon as firefighters washed it down.
