A 17-year-old and an 18-year-old have been arrested and charged in connection with the shooting death of a teen in the parking lot of an International Drive nightclub.

The 17-year-old boy, charged with first-degree murder with a firearm, appeared before a Judge Daniel P. Dawson in juvenile court for the first time Friday. More than a dozen family members filed out of the courtroom, silently listening to instructions from an attorney.

According to the judge, the state has 30 days to bring the suspect to juvenile or adult court. The State Attorney's Office would not comment on whether they upgrade charges.

The teen, arrested a day before his 17th birthday, is not being identified at this time per our crime guidelines.

Orlnado Police announced the arrest of a second person in connection to the case Friday night. Levar Ferguson, 18, faces charges of accessory after the fact to first-degree murder.

On March 21, Terron McCarty was gunned down in the parking lot of LUX Ultra Lounge at 5688 International Drive, not far from Universal Orlando. Investigators think the shooting stemmed from a fight inside the club that spilled outside.

Marcus Moore, a mentor and basketball coach, recalled McCarty as he learned of the 17-year-old boy's arrest.

“He was a great kid, always wanted to play basketball," Moore said, adding that the teenager always had a smile on his face.

“He spent a lot of time in this very gym right here. One of my last memories with him was a championship game in this gym," said Demario Fountain, who coached McCarty in basketball for three years. “It was heartbreaking, for me, for my fellow staff and kids in the community.”

Moore said McCarty was an active member of Parramore Kidz Zone, or PKZ. If McCarty wasn't in the "Teen Shack" clubhouse, he was on the basketball court.

“I hope peace for the family, the family have peace," Moore said.
