  • Arlene is 2nd April tropical storm during satellite era in Atlantic basin

Tropical Storm Arlene, the first named storm of 2017, developed from a nontropical low that formed near the Bahamas a few days ago.

Arlene is over waters too cool to support a purely tropical system and soon is expected to merge with a front.

The system is no threat to Florida or the U.S. and should dissipate later tonight or on Friday.

The 2017 Atlantic hurricane season doesn't officially begin until June 1.
