Orange County Sheriff's Office is investigating a pair of letters sent to Orange-Osceola State Attorney Aramis Ayala's office that appear to be a threat.

  • Pair of letters purported to be threatening sent to prosecutor Aramis Ayala
  • 1 alleged racial message sent March 20, "hangman's noose" sent March 27

According to a sheriff's office report, a letter arrived at Ayala's office on March 20, that appeared to have a racial message.

A second letter arrived on March 27, that included a post card with a hangman's noose in green twine taped to the card.

The sheriff's office did not say what was written in the letter or on the card.

However, Ayala told investigators she believes the noose was meant as a threat against her, while the racial message could be a hate crime.

It's not known if the envelopes were sent by the same person.

Ayala is under fire because she is not seeking the death penalty in any applicable cases. But it's not known if these letters are tied to that.
