Here's the Central Florida weather forecast for the upcoming weekend:

  • Areas of smoke and fog on Friday, with visibility issues
  • Highs in the upper 80s Friday inland
  • Rain chances increase starting Sunday

Temperatures were in the 80s once again Thursday afternoon with plenty of sunshine. The forecast continues to remain dry and hot over the next several days before rain chances pick up early next week.

Runners are at Walt Disney World for the Star Wars Half Marathon -- Dark Side, and Disney issued a weather advisory because temperatures this weekend would be warmer than usual. Participants are expected to stay hydrated and try not to run their personal best.

The drought monitor did not get any worse with Thursday’s update, but it didn’t get any better. We still have a high fire danger risk for Central Florida.

Mostly clear skies are in the forecast through the overnight hours. Temperatures will be mild, falling into the mid to low 60s. We’ll once again see areas of smoke and fog to start out the day on Friday. This may create some visibility issues, similar to the past several mornings.

Plenty of sunshine will continue for Friday with hot temperatures. Highs will climb into the upper 80s inland and in the mid to low 80s along the coast. Aside from a stray coastal shower, most will be dry again. This pattern continues for the start of our weekend, but will change up a bit Sunday.

A system moving in will increase rain chances Sunday afternoon and into Monday. This system will drop temperatures back slightly, but only for a day or two before warming back up.

In the tropics, we’ve been watching an area of low pressure in the north Atlantic. This low formed into a tropical storm Thursday afternoon and was given the name Arlene. Only the second named storm on record for the month of April. This storm will dissipate quickly and not impact Florida at all.

Boating conditions look good for Friday, but onshore winds will keep the rip current threat elevated.

An isolated shower cannot be completely ruled out for Wednesday as winds continue off of the Atlantic. Most will be dry with plenty of sunshine and warm temperatures. Highs inland will be in the upper 80s to around 90 degrees and mid to low 80s along the coast. Not much will change for the rest of the week as temperatures continue to warm up even more. A system is expected to move through early next week and will hopefully bring some much needed rain.
