A 2.5 acre brush fire in east Orange County is finally out.

It came very close to several homes along Hummingbird Lane, near Goldenrod Road and Lake Underhill.

Orange County said it started when an electrical transformer blew up, sending sparks into the dry wooded area.

"Two seconds I heard a big bomb, boom. Like what the heck, and it scared me," said Sean Kelly, who lives along Hummingbird Lane. "I saw a fire out there, and big bang, and then another fire to the other side to the right.”

The flames caused quite a panic at first.

"I was scared a little bit, I am OK now," said Margre Shaginaw, resident on Hummingbird Lane.

Orange County fire and forestry crews did quell the flames and worry among homeowners fairly quickly.

"It’s great that it didn’t come into our yard or anything, it didn’t burn down the house or anything, it was just in the back," said Nelson Alvarez, resident on Hummingbird Lane.

Relief was felt, but a sense of awareness during this dry season is certainly now burned into the minds of all those living there.

Plus a desire for one thing: “We need rain bad," said Shaginaw.

Fire crews say they will continue to monitor hot spots for several more hours.

No homes were evacuated.
