The driver of a vehicle involved in a drive-by shooting that injured a 2-year-old girl surrendered to authorities Friday morning.

  • Alicia Winters surrendered Friday at Tavares PD
  • Arrest warrant was issued on Thursday night
  • Investigators also looking for 2 other people

An arrest warrant was issued Thursday night for Alicia Winters.

Winters showed up at the Tavares Police Department at about 10:15 a.m., according to Cpl. Sarah Coursey. She was said to be with investigators and officers.

The child, Sy'mia Pierce, was playing outside of an apartment in a truck on 580 W. Rosewood Lane near State Road 19 at 9 p.m. Tuesday.

A vehicle, thought to be a dark gray Chevy Malibu, drove by, and someone inside fired several shots, according to the girl's mother, Tiffany Collins.

The girl was hit in the abdomen and taken to Florida Hospital Waterman.

Investigators said Winters was driving the car during Tuesday's shooting on Rosewood Lane. Police believe two other people were inside the car at the time of the shooting.

The child was released from the hospital Wednesday morning.

Investigators said they are working on arrest warrants for the other two people in the car.

Collins said she knows some of the people who were in the car, claiming the dispute was over a dog.

"We were told there was three people total, we have two other persons of interest that they're still developing the leads and clues and going through the evidence," Coursey said.

Investigators hope Winters will lead them to the others.

Winters faces three felony charges: principal to an attempted murder with a firearm, principal to a shooting into an occupied dwelling and principal to a shooting into an occupied convenience.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477).
