Many residents in one Oviedo neighborhood say something needs to be done about a dangerous intersection.

Julio Colon writes in this week.

"We have a bad condition at the intersection of Red Bug Lake Road and Palomino Way in Oviedo. The cars speeding westbound on Red Bug can't see vehicles around the turn causing accidents regularly. It's only a matter of time before someone is killed. Something needs to be done."

News 13 visited the area and found residents like Doug Korman in Oviedo concerned that a blind corner at the entrance to their neighborhood is getting too dangerous.

"It's only a matter of time before somebody gets hurt or killed at this intersection," said Korman.

It's the intersection of Red Bug Lake Road and Palomino Way. Residents are now too afraid to turn left out of their neighborhood because of a blind spot that blocks Red Bug drivers' line of sight.

"It's a dangerous corner and it needs to be taken care of," said Colon.

Colon moved to Seminole County from New York over a year ago and he claims that even in that short of a time period, he's seen a lot of activity at that intersection.

"I've seen several accidents that could have been fatal,” said Colon. “Luckily enough, they haven't been. But, unfortunately, we live in a society of reactionaries and we need to be proactive."

Korman who lives in the same neighborhood says a long red left turn arrow down the street is partially to blame.

"So there's a community where there's hundreds of homes back in here where they are bypassing that light to get into this intersection making it hard to get across the intersection," said Korman.

Korman thinks adjusting to the traffic light at Kilter might make a difference for now.

"For a temporary solution to help fix the problem is to take that red light down there, the left turn, and turn it into a flashing yellow. So people wont feel the need to come down here and bypass the light."

As for Colon, he says that the solution to the problem is simple.

"The solution? Put a light here on the corner. That's the solution."

News 13 did speak with Seminole County Traffic Engineering and it stated that it would do a traffic crash analysis of the area and a site visit this week to see if anything could be done regarding the area's traffic issue.
