A 56-year-old man was killed in a crash early Sunday morning.

Troopers said a semi-truck hauling a trailer was traveling south on U.S. 301 when a pickup truck traveling north on U.S. 301, entered the southbound lanes.
The driver of the semi, 33-year-old Mario Alvarez, attempted to avoid hitting the truck, but was unable. Both vehicles collided head-on.
The accident occurred around 3:15 a.m.
Troopers said the driver of the truck, 56-year-old Jerry Likens, was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the FHP report, Likens was not wearing a seat belt.
Alvarez only received minor injuries.
The north and southbound lanes of US 301 were closed for several hours this morning during the investigation.
