The Seminole County Clerk of Courts employee who was placed on administrative leave earlier this week following social media comments related to State Attorney Aramis Ayala has resigned.

Seminole County Clerk of the Courts Grant Maloy said Stan McCullars, who worked as an assistant finance director, has resigned. The announcement was posted on Maloy's Facebook page at 4:47 p.m. Wednesday.

Earlier this week, a News 13 viewer shared a screen capture of the comments made by McCullars, in which he suggested Ayala should get the death penalty. The comments followed Ayala's statements on her office deciding not to seek the death penalty in criminal trials, including the Markeith Loyd case.

McCullars worked in the office for about one year.

Maloy said he called Ayala's office and apologized. He said Ayala's office informed him they are filing a complaint.

"Let me emphasize again that the Clerk of the Court and Comptroller, our management team and employees do not tolerate or condone discriminatory behavior toward our customers, coworkers or the public," Maloy wrote in the Facebook post. "We stand by our office's continuing commitment to diversity and inclusion. It is my ongoing commitment to serve the citizens of Seminole County and all customers of our clerk's offices with the utmost integrity and professionalism while treating all in a fair and respectful manner."

Maloy also said in his Facebook post that he plans to do three additional things following his review of the McCullars situation.

The clerk said he will implement a written social media policy to be incorporated into the office's employee manual, provide employee training and will announce the creation of a separate human resources department.
