The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a death investigation after a man’s body was found Sunday afternoon.

  • Teens find man's body near Orange County lake
  • Man pronounced dead by authorities
  • Deputies say it's a homicide investigation

Deputies were called to the area of Lake Florence, just off of Good Homes Road in response to calls of an unresponsive person.

A group of teens found the man lying along the shore, deputies said.

Orange County Fire Rescue also responded to the scene and pronounced the man dead.

Earlier in the day, the teens cleaned and drained a neighbor’s pool.

They went to the lake to release a few frogs and turtles they had removed from the pool, and that’s when they discovered the man.

“He wasn’t like responding or anything so we went right next to him to see if there was anything wrong with him and we saw some blood marks on his chest,” said Neo O’Berry, one of the teens.

The teens said they sensed something was wrong and called police.

"We are very active in the community, but one of (the) things is — the community is our eyes and ears," said Angelo Nieves, a spokesperson with the Orange County Sheriff's Office. "And here in this case the teens acted properly."

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said they are investigating the case as a homicide.

The teens say they hope the case is solved soon and the man's family can somehow be at peace.

"He was probably someone's child or someone's parent," said Kyle Yarborough, one of the teens. "We just had to call police."

The identity of the man has not been released, but deputies said the black man was between 25 and 35 years old.
