A motorcyclist was killed Saturday afternoon after trying to avoid a collision with another vehicle.

The crash occurred around 12:25 p.m. at Econlockhatchee Trail and Grande Valencia Drive in Orlando.

Troopers said a Ford Escape, drive by Samantha Legerton, 29, was traveling north on Econlockhatchee Trail when Legerton crossed over into the southbound lane.

The motorcyclist was traveling south and laid down his bike on the pavement to avoid a collision.

The bike and rider collided with the pavement. Troopers said the 58-year-old man was thrown from his motorcycle.

He was transported to Florida Hospital East where he was pronounced dead.

According to the FHP report, the biker was not wearing a helmet.

The victim's name has not been released yet, pending notification of next of kin. 

The crash remains under investigation.
