  • Was in a coma for 37 days before he died

“This case really is going to be solved by someone out in the public who has knowledge of what happened,” said Homicide Detective Michael Moreschi with the Orlando Police Department.

Jones died more than a month after he was shot in the back on Jan. 23, on South Westmoreland Drive.

“For 37 days he fought to be alive and lost that battle,” Detective Moreschi said.

The victim’s aunt, Susan Nichols, spoke publicly Friday.

“I hope and I pray that if anybody knows anything, if you’re afraid to come forward, do it anonymously, because I don’t want to see another family up here going through what we went through,” she said.

Jones' family called him an active member of church, frequently found on roller skates or a basketball court. His uncle Robert Jones had been his legal guardian since he was 6 years old.

“This is a tragic loss to this society, to lose somebody of this caliber,” Jones said. “I assure you, you could not find one person that would have anything negative to say about the integrity of this young man.”

Jones admitted Branndon should not have been where he was when he was shot, but said he didn't deserve to die this way. The agony of not knowing who killed him continues as they mourn his short life with a mysterious end.

“I’m going to make a plea to you people and to everyone out there in earshot of what I’m saying right now. You have a killer amongst you. The way he killed Branndon, shooting him in the back, is a coward, this guy will kill again," Jones said.

Branndon was in an induced coma for 37 days. His uncle said Branndon was an organ donor and his kidneys gave life to someone else.
