The sheriff's office says a 58-year-old man with a shotgun was killed by a deputy Thursday night in Deltona.

The incident happened just before 7 p.m. at a home on Teather Avenue.

Deputies say they got a call to the home from a woman who said the man was off his medication and was becoming violent.

They say the man opened the front door and pointed the shotgun at the deputy.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.

The deputy involved has been placed on temporary paid leave.
