A University of Central Florida police officer was in the "right place at the right time" and saved a woman who was choking last week.

Officer Julie Wilk was on routine patrol when she found out a UCF employee nearby was choking.

Wilk quickly responded and performed the Heimlich maneuver, saving the woman's life.

Wilk's actions happened to take place during Safe Knight Week at UCF, when special training and programs were made available for students to learn how to stay safe and help others

"UCFPD hopes her example empowers others to be vigilant and to understand how to help others –- whether by learning the Heimlich maneuver, getting CPR certified, etc. -- so that they too can be heroes," said spokesperson Courtney Gilmartin.

UCF police offers lots of information and resources to stay safe on its website.

American Red Cross is offering CPR and First Aid classes at UCF in March and April at the Recreation and Wellness Center.
