It’s only the third day of bike week and officials have already seen a few serious motorcycle crashes.

  • Crashes pick up on third day of Daytona Bike Week
  • Saturday saw two serious crashes involving motorcycles
  • One person was killed, six others injured

The Florida Highway Patrol is urging all drivers to use extra caution in the area and be on the lookout for bikers.

On Saturday, there were two crashes involving motorcycles.

One of them killed a person and shut down all eastbound lanes on I-4 in Volusia County.

Traffic was stopped completely on I-4 Saturday afternoon while troopers investigated the crash.

According to FHP, one motorcycle ran into another bike.

Glen Sturgeon Junior, 71, of Massachusetts was killed and three other people were hurt.

On Saturday night, three people were also injured in a crash that involved a motorcycle and two other cars.

The motorcycle, which had two riders, was pinned between the two vehicles.

The man and woman who were on the bike were taken to the hospital as trauma alerts.

A woman was arrested on DUI charges related to that crash.

As rain chances increase Sunday, authorities are concerned the slick roads could lead to more accidents.

Recent stats from AAA show Florida leads the nation in motorcycle crash fatalities with more than 600 deaths in 2015.

The number of crashes also rose 30-percent between 2014 and 2015

Bike week is a 10 day event which ends next Sunday.
