The Florida Forest Service conducted prescribed burns all over the state Wednesday, and some of them were quite big.

There was an 11,000-acre prescribed burn being conducted in the Fellsmere area, and the smoke could be seen in nearby southern Brevard County.

Florida Forest Service Bunnell reported several prescribed burns in Volusia County, including a 365-acre fire in southern Volusia.

The U.S. Forest Service also conducted a 2,500-acre fire in the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, not far from Kennedy Space Center. Smoke could be seen billowing over the Vehicle Assembly Building.

In Orange County, FFS reported a 3,437-acre fire near State Road 528 and a 100-acre fire near Alafaya Trail and Innovation Way.

There were also several prescribed burns in Osceola County, totalling about 1,200 acres.

Prescribed burns are common this time of year to clear out dead brush that could catch fire.

The FFS will be conducting a 2,500-acre prescribed burn in the Lil Big Econ State Forest in east Seminole County on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
