  • Durant Smith, 40, accused of beating woman with ax
  • Woman has severe head trauma, in ICU
  • Smith also attack another woman, deputies say

Deputies were called to a residence in the 500 block of Northeast 129th Terrace on Friday after reports of domestic disturbance.

When they arrived, they found two women with injuries. One woman, who has not been identified, was unconscious and had severe trauma to her head.  The other woman, Brittany Suber, 23 had non-life-threatening injuries.

Both women were taken to hospital.

The woman with head trauma is in the intensive care unit, with no brain activity, deputies said.

Suber was treated for her injuries and released.

Deputies say Durant Smith, 40, came to the house to get some of his personal items and attacked the woman with an ax and a block of wood.

Smith fled the scene before deputies arrived.

Deputies were able to locate Smith who was hiding inside a vehicle parked on Northeast 118th Avenue Road.

Smith was arrested and taken to the Marion County Jail. He faces attempted murder and violation of domestic violence injunction charges.
