Two police officers were shot while responding to a domestic disturbance at a home off Crestview Drive on Saturday.

During news conference, Casselberry Police Chief Larry Krantz identified the suspect as 65-year-old James Lee Parran.

Krantz said Parran called 911 and told dispatchers he battered his wife and that he was armed.

Five officers responded to the house shortly before 4 a.m.

As officers approached the house, Parran started shooting at them with a shotgun, authorities said.

Four officers returned fire. Two officers, Corporal Adam Phillips and Ryan McIntosh, were hit by shotgun pellets, but are expected to be OK.

Both officers were transported to hospitals in stable condition.

Parran was found dead inside the house when a SWAT team entered. According to police, he was a military veteran.

Investigators have not determined whether he shot himself or was killed by officers.

"I walked out my front door, heard all the commotion and realized there was police shooting at the house across the street," said Bill Carson, a resident. "And as soon as I walked out, I seen that one of the officers was hit."

Multiple agencies responded to the shooting, including the Seminole County Sheriff's Office, Orlando Police Department and Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Residents in the area were told to stay indoors and at least one home was evacuated.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating and both officers will be placed on administrative leave.
