One Merritt Island high School student is taking community service and turning it in to so much more.

Victoria Araj bakes dozens of birthday cakes for children throughout Brevard County, even though she's never actually met them.

The cakes aren’t just for any old birthday.

They’re specially designed for children at the Haven for Children, an organization that takes in neglected or abused children in Central Florida and gives them a fresh start.

“Just knowing someone cares about them, on their birthday, it probably seems pretty special,” Victoria said. “It’s a good impact on their lives. It’s something to look forward to each year and it’s something that will keep them going each morning, I think it really does help.”

Victoria, who goes to Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy, started baking as part of community service. However, it quickly turned into a year-long passion.

“It really does make you feel good knowing you’re doing something to help someone, not just for community service, but doing it because it’s something you feel strongly about.”

At the end of the day, one this is most important to her.

“Just big bright smiles, that’s my goal,” Victoria said.

Victoria says since starting the project, she's baked more than 20 birthday cakes.
