A stunning death in the small community of Scottsmoor in North Brevard County still has neighbors asking why.

  • 80-year-old man found dead inside Scottsmoor home
  • Crime scene and homicide agents investigated residence

Eighty-year-old Grady Wright was found dead in his home Friday night. Investigators call it a death investigation, but they are not releasing much information.

"He was a good man and a very giving soul," next door neighbor Vernie Driggers said. She's known him for years, and doesn't have one bad word to say about him or his character.

Deputies were called to Wright's Sunset Avenue home, just off U.S. 1, around 10:30 p.m. after a concerned friend went to check on him and found him dead inside.

BCSO homicide agents and crime scene techs poured over the scene for the next two days.

News 13 spoke to the Brevard Medical Examiner's Office this afternoon -- we are told the autopsy is complete, but were referred to the sheriff's office for details.

"Grady was always working on his property, he was very proud of it. He would always speak to whoever went by," said Driggers.

Driggers says Wright was very active at the First Baptist Church, which is just down the street from his rural home. She says he spearheaded a food drive for the small, 30-member congregation.

"It was a shock to know this happened to him. Him of all people," said Driggers.
