  • He was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital, where he died
  • Driver stayed at scene, according to police

The incident happened at Lake Johns Motel, a mobile home community along West Colonial Drive.

The 3-year-old boy was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children where he died from his injuries.

From her porch, neighbor Yazay Brown saw the truck enter her neighborhood.

"When he went down the steps as soon as he, like, set foot in the street, I saw a truck come around the corner," Brown said. "I was like, 'Junior, stop, Junior stop.' I was like, 'Sarah, tell your brother to stop.' And I started running off of the steps and then the truck hit him and there was like nothing I could do.”

Brown said it was just a matter of time before something like this happened.

“There are cars that come around this corner all the time speeding and I tell the kids all the time you have to watch the road, because they always come back here speeding. They always know that there is kids back here but for some reason they just keep speeding,” she said.

The entrance into Lake John's Motel is marked with signs showing the posted speed limit is five miles per hour.

Oakland Police said this was not a hit-and-run crash, and the driver stayed at the scene.

They did not say whether there would be charges against the driver.
