One more name has been added to the list of people whose charges are being dropped because they were arrested by former Volusia Sheriff’s Deputy John Braman.

The State Attorney’s office originally released the names of 18 people who were pulled over and ultimately arrested by Deputy Braman.

But an investigation revealed Braman was allegedly acting on the other side of the law.

Sheriff Mike Chitwood placed Braman on administrative leave for allegedly taking money from people he arrested.

One of them was Tom French.

Attorney Flem Whited represents French, who was pulled over and ultimately arrested for driving under the influence.

But it wasn’t the arrest which Whited questioned, it’s what happened while Whited’s client was in the back seat of the patrol car.

“Shocked, just completely shocked. I couldn’t believe it was happening,” said French’s attorney, Flem Whited.

Deputy John Braman was wearing a body camera, and inadvertently recorded a video which Whited obtained through discovery.

He says Braman is seen in the video in the back of the patrol car sifting through his client’s belongings, like French’s wallet.

“He takes the wallet out. He takes two $100 bills out and lays them clearly, right there on his trunk, put the wallet up and then he goes back out,” said Whited.

Whited turned the video over to the State Attorney’s office.

But he wasn’t the only one. Other videos surfaced showing Braman allegedly doing the same thing, taking money from people he arrested.

Braman later resigned from office. He is being investigated by FDLE.

Prosecutors are waiting to see whether FDLE officials will recommend any charges against the former deputy.

“I’m sure there were some people who will benefit from it that maybe shouldn’t. But…(pause) you know, crooked cops are crooked cops,” said Whited.
