  • Police say Meggison was trying to return items she stole

50-year-old Sharon Easterly-Meggison is charged with burglary and drug paraphernalia.

Marion County Public School officials said Meggison was put on administrative leave in November after Fort King Middle school officials in Ocala believed she was under the influence.

“Her behavior was obviously enough to put a red flag up in minds of administration," said Kevin Christian with Marion County Public Schools.

School officials had her take a drug test and said she later resigned.

On Monday, Fort King Middle School officials said there was a burglary and told police they suspected Meggison because her personal couch was gone along with a desk computer.

Ocala Police say she was told not to come back onto campus without being escorted but admitted to the school resource officer that she did come on campus and was in possession of a school computer and was cleaning it up.

Meggison was arrested Tuesday after police say she was "attempting to go undetected on campus to return some of the items that she stole."

While searching Meggison's car, police say they found a razor blade, a plastic straw, a small black scale and a white powder substance. Authorities say that residue tested positive for cocaine.

“It’s unfortunate a teacher who had good marks had quality ratings on her evaluations and obviously made some bad choices," Christian said.

School officials say Meggison was hired in 2013 and worked with kids with special needs.
