  • Suspects were bringing kilos of cocaine, heroin, deputies say
  • Orange County also announced 24 drug-related arrests

SCSO, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's and Homeland Security Investigations announced the arrest of nine individuals involved in a drug trafficking organization.

Deputies say several suspects were bringing in about 30 kilos of cocaine and one kilo of heroin per month, something detectives say they discovered during an eight month long investigation, which they say was slowed by Hurricane Maria.

Officials say they tracked the operation from Puerto Rico to Seminole and Orange Counties.

"These 21 people are bad guys and girls. They're involved in criminal activity that stretched the entire board, so this is just a surface of what they do, but they live a life of crime and everything associated and tied back here somehow," said Seminole County Sheriff Dennis Lemma.

Only nine of the 21 have been arrested. One is dead, Antoine Haggins, who was found shot to death in a car.

On Thursday, the Orange County Sheriff's Office announced 24 drug-related arrests.

Authorities say they’re working to bring others into custody.
