The Sanford Police Department will soon have officers working out of a church.

  • Sanford PD to open substation at downtown church
  • Police say space will allow them to connect to historic district

Sanford Police are opening up a police substation at Central Baptist Church’s downtown Sanford campus.

The church’s pastor says he offered up the space to the police department.

“I would be out of here late at night and see guys and gals in their cruisers, and I thought wouldn’t it be nice if we provided them a space,” said Central Baptist Lead Pastor Alan Brumback.

Sanford Police say the new office will not only allow them to increase safety in the area around the church, but it will help them better connect with people in Sanford’s historic district.

“When you have that specific location off-site, that is of the police station, it just gives citizens the opportunity to interact with law enforcement a little more,” said Ronny Neal, a spokesperson for Sanford Police.

Sanford Police will have a grand opening of the new police substation on Monday, Dec. 18 at 11:30 a.m. at Central Baptist Church’s downtown Sanford campus office building.
